Perform or ...

During the first corona wave many employees from many companies pushed out as the companies could not handle the financial crunch and some companies got shutdown. Few companies did not lay off any employees and found some other ways to cost cutting and crossed the first wave.
Again during second corona wave it was situation was still the same but here some companies were able to do their businesses and could get some income from that but that was not enough. So the companies had to do something but cannot tell the employees to leave. If they lay off then the company may have to pay some amount to the employees and unable hold the employees because the business is not doing well. So they came with a plan!!
Let us go through a story to understand the plan better.
Kannan joined a start-up company as an executive, slow learner but understood the process and worked well. Within a span of a year Kannan promoted twice and was doing good at work as well. During the first corona wave as every company started doing work from home the productivity was way better than before and even here the team were doing good. Due to some personal issues at Kannan's place the work performance was dipping and within few days Kannan lost a family member and this moved him to depression. The work side performance was not that good but tried to do better, at the same time at the office many employees were quitting the job. When Kannan checked with other colleagues they said they feeling the work pressure and asking to do more and if not reached the day's target then extend for some more time. The best performing employees also felt the same kind of pressure and many got fatals on their call quality. Soon people started quitting the jobs without saying or completed their notice period. Some were going out because they lacked in performance. So this was the plan the company came with, create a target that hard to reach and put pressure on the agents to reach them and if they fail to do so send them out as non performer.
In the mean time Kannan was also targeted in a different way. Often there was a team shuffle, not adding any new members to the team. If they add a new agent, he/she would be a non performer in their previous team. This was hampering the team's performance but Kannan did not realise this sooner and so this continued for sometime.
Before Kannan understood the situation, he was moved to non performer zone and finally moved him out of the company.

This is one example to understand how a company can change a performer to non performer. The leaders always should create another leader not perish their dreams who wanna grow in an organisation.
